Training and Certification Programs

The American Trucking Associations offers a number of training and certification programs designed for moving and storage industry professionals to hone their skills. These programs provide the benefit of not only boosting consumer confidence that they are hiring a reputable representative of the moving and storage industry, but also increasing the company’s bottom line by reducing claims and damages.

 

Certified Moving Consultant (CMC)

This self-study program covers the key aspects of the Moving and Storage Industry Sales Consultancy Process. Over the past 35 years, more than 2,000 sales professionals have become Certified Moving Consultants. The Certified Moving Consultant (CMC) credential has come to represent a fundamental competency and adherence to ethical conduct for the household goods moving and storage industry. When consumers see the CMC logo displayed, they can be confident they are dealing with a knowledgeable sales consultant who is committed to providing excellent and fair service.

For members, a $100 application fee provides applicants with one copy of the CMC manual and two attempts to pass the test. After passing the test, a $125 yearly maintenance fee will keep credentials current.

Certified Office and Industrial Consultant (COIC)

This self-study program covers key aspects of the office and industrial sales process, including costing, estimating, managing, etc. The Certified Office and Industrial Consultant credential highlights your company’s professionalism in dealing with specialized office and industrial moves.

For members, a $100 application fee purchases one COIC manual and access to two attempts to pass the test. After passing the test, a $75 yearly maintenance fee will keep credentials current.

Certified Packer/Loader (CPL)

This program has helped companies reduce claims, reduce trip and fall rates, and successfully complete jobs more efficiently and effectively. CPL includes an introduction to moving and storage, customer relations, and claims prevention through packing, loading, unloading, safety and reporting procedures. ATA members can purchase these videos once for $400, and train the whole team! 

When a member of your crew has a certification designating them as a Certified Packer Loader, not only does that person differentiate themselves from others in the industry, but also your company differentiates itself from others. You can proudly market to your customers the professionalism and pride with which you operate.

For members, an additional $50 per person allows packers/loaders to take ATA’s packer/loader test to receive official certification, allowing them to wear the CPL logo and demonstrate their credentials to customers.

ProMover Program

ProMover is a certification program that gives consumer an easy way to separate reputable, professional movers from “rogue operators.” The ProMover certification takes the worry and the hassle out of moving by helping consumers identify professional movers who have agreed to abide by high standards and by providing information and assistance with everything from finding a mover, to getting an estimate and packing tips, to understanding valuation and insurance. 

Leaders Program

ATA’s Leaders program is designed for high-performing individuals in the moving and storage industry, from administration and management personnel to operations personnel, to grow and develop into leaders. In addition to learning about types of leadership, participants will engage with their supervisors, as well as with each other, for a hands-on learning experience.
