Nebraska Governor Approves Revised Route for Keystone XL Pipeline
On January 22, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman approved the revised route for the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline through Nebraska. The controversial pipeline expansion will allow the transport of Canadian bitumen to U.S. refineries in the Gulf Coast area for processing. Approval of TransCanada Corporation’s permit application now rests solely in the hands of the U.S. State Department and President Obama. The State Department is currently conducting a supplemental environmental impact statement on a route from Canada's Alberta province to Nebraska, which agency officials said should be completed by the end of the first quarter.
