ATA Adds Bendix as ATA Corporate Partner

Jul 13, 2017

Arlington, Va. – Today, American Trucking Associations announced Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (Bendix), a leading supplier of commercial vehicle safety technologies, as the newest ATA Corporate Partner and Featured Product provider. The two groups also announced Bendix will continue as supporters of ATA’s image and outreach activities including ATA’s Interstate One Image Truck and ATA’s Share the Road highway safety program. The company has also sponsored the National Truck Driving Championship Grand Champion award for the past six years.

“Companies like Bendix are helping pioneer new safety technologies, keeping the trucking industry ahead of the curve when it comes to industry-changing solutions,” said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. “We are excited to partner with Bendix in our shared pursuit of advancing safety technologies and we look forward to continued success and development in safety systems for the commercial vehicle industry.”

Bendix has long been known as a pioneer in the commercial vehicle industry. The company has a proud reputation as experts in air brake systems and leading-edge safety technologies in North America, as well as a legacy of innovation and achievement. A member of the Munich, Germany-based Knorr-Bremse Group, its global leadership in integrated systems design and engineering has delivered trucking industry innovations such as the flagship Bendix Wingman Fusion driver assistance system, powerful air disc brakes for tractors and trailers, and more. Bendix is committed to improving the quality of life in the communities in which the company operates through programs that nurture and support education, health and human services, the environment, economic development, civic involvement and diversity.

As part of that commitment, Bendix is a supporter of ATA’s Share the Road safety program, a group of professional truck drivers that tours North America speaking to students, community groups and members of the media about the importance of highway safety. Share the Road conducts blind spot demonstrations and provides driving tips to motorists of all ages and skill levels.

Additionally, Bendix is a supporter of ATA’s Interstate One Image Truck, a classroom-on-wheels featuring a state-of-the-art truck driving simulator. Interstate One is driven by elite professional truck drivers known as America’s Road Team and is used as a tool to explain the trucking industry’s safety record and economic essentiality to the general public. And furthering its support of the men and women behind the wheel, Bendix has sponsored the National Truck Driving Championships Grand Champion trophy since 2011. This year’s event takes place in Orlando, Florida, August 9 – 12.

“The passion to deliver integrated solutions that help advance highway safety and lower total cost of ownership is deeply rooted in every Bendix team member,” said Berend Bracht, Bendix President and CEO. “The technologies already making a difference on the commercial vehicles and roads of North America – things like full-stability, the Bendix Wingman Fusion collision mitigation systems, and our powerful air disc brakes – are also the proven foundations for even safer trucks and more advanced driver assistance capabilities in the future.”

The Bendix Wingman Fusion system utilizes a camera and radar to provide enhanced collision mitigation along with the fusion of additional features including adaptive cruise control, stationary vehicle braking, lane departure warning, speed sign recognition and alert prioritization. By integrating a camera and radar, Fusion is typically able to more quickly determine a situation through cross-checking, begin alerting and braking earlier to help the driver mitigate potential collision situations, while it helps to reduce driver annoyances such as false alerts and false interventions – an improvement on the Bendix radar-only technology offerings. The system is built on Bendix ESP full-stability technology to also help drivers mitigate rollover and loss of control situations. Bendix advanced driver assistance systems do not encourage aggressive driving and do not replace the need for safe, alert drivers, practicing safe driving habits and comprehensive driver training.
