 Insurance Task Force

 
Mission Statement: The Insurance Task Force was formed in late 2001 to address the availability and affordability of insurance coverage for motor carriers.  When formed, the Task Force adopted a two-pronged approach:  provide information and training initiatives for helping motor carriers secure more affordable insurance rates and engage in tort reform efforts at the state and federal levels aimed at a long-term attack on the primary cause of escalating rates--outrageous and unfair jury verdicts. Tort reform means fighting for fairer ground rules in the courts for the nation's businesses; it means a level playing ground for all parties to any lawsuit.

Focus Areas: Through consultation with trucking industry defense counsel, the Task Force identified the following nine reforms as the most beneficial to the trucking industry:

Tort Reform Strategy:  The Task Force determined that achieving sound tort rform at the state level as the best approach.  In furtherance of this strategy, the Task Force collected contributions from ATA members and other interested parties and channeled grants to State Trucking Associations to pursue meaninful tort reform in their states.  To receive a grant from the Task Force, a State Trucking Assocation must submit a request pursuant to the following criteria:
