TSA Eliminnates Corporate Security Review Overlap with DOT Program for Hazmat Carriers
On April 26, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued a notice in the Federal Register renewing its Corporate Security Review (CSR) Program. ATA argued that TSA’s CSR Program, primarily directed towards hazmat carriers, duplicates the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Security Contact Reviews of hazmat carriers. Over the last two years, ATA fought vigorously to eliminate the costly redundancies between the TSA and DOT programs. In July 2010 the White House’s Office of Management and Budget agreed with ATA’s requests and directed TSA to end the overlap by July 17, 2011 . This week’s notice announced the extension of TSA’s CSR Program, but excludes hazardous materials carriers to ensure that these companies are not subjected to multiple redundant security reviews.
