ATA Meets with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Leadership

2/10/2011

Led by President and CEO, Bill Graves, and Stephen Russell, Chairman and CEO of Celadon Group, Inc., ATA met on February 4 with CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin to discuss ways to improve trucking operations across the U.S. borders with Canada and Mexico.  The issues discussed with Mr. Bersin and other CBP staff included: excessive wait times at ports of entry; need for increased human resources and infrastructure; lack of true Free and Secure Trade (FAST) lanes; improved benefits for C-TPAT motor carriers; and pre-clearance for low-risk cargo.  Mr. Bersin requested that ATA prepare a document describing present operational concerns that need to be addressed to improve cross-border trucking efficiency, especially for low-risk carriers and shipments.
