ATA Honored to Receive EPA SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award
Award is Federation’s Sixth for Support of Clean Air Partnership

Arlington, Va. – Today, American Trucking Associations officials expressed their gratitude to the Environmental Protection Agency for honoring the federation for a sixth time with the EPA SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award.

“For nearly a decade, ATA has been proud to work with the EPA in what we believe is a model for the public and private sectors cooperating to address a significant challenge,” ATA President and CEO Bill Graves said. “The effort of industry and government working together to reduce fuel use and emissions is commendable and we look forward to many more years of fruitful partnership with EPA.”

“EPA commends the Affiliate Challenge honorees for their extraordinary level of commitment, enthusiasm, and creativity in supporting EPA’s SmartWay program, and sustainable transportation,” said Christopher Grundler, director of EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality. “The work in this arena helps to advance the environmental sustainability of commercial transportation and logistics bringing us all closer to achieving the shared goals of efficient goods movement and clean air.”

ATA has been named an EPA SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award winner previously in 2007, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

“SmartWay partners, including many ATA members, have saved nearly $25 billion in fuel costs and more than 170 million barrels of oil and eliminated 73 million metric tons of carbon emissions, 1.5 million tons of NOx and 72,000 tons of particulate matter,” said Glen Kedzie, ATA vice president and energy and environmental affairs counsel.
