ATA Files Comments on NHTSA Survey For Next Round of Truck Fuel Efficiency Standards

2/21/2013

On February 19, ATA submitted comments on NHTSA’s Proposed Collection of Information:  Medium- and Heavy-Duty Truck Fleet Survey.  Information from this survey will be used by NHTSA as they begin to consider the next round of truck fuel efficiency standards for post model-year 2018 equipment.  Survey information will assist the agency in establishing new fuel efficiency baselines for Class 2b-8 vehicles including model configurations, levels of fuel consumption and emissions equipment, current performance, vocations, typical mileage and payloads, fuels, and certification choices.  Two key concerns raised by ATA in its comments included whether the survey would truly be representative of all trucking operations and the importance of acquiring and matching payloads to specific fleets operations.  NHTSA estimates that 2000 fleet managers will be screened to help select 175 qualified and willing companies to complete a more detailed survey. Click here for a copy of the comments.
